New eCampus Course at the University of Bonn brings irecs Training Materials into Practice

October 2025

The University of Bonn has recently launched a new eCampus course that allows doctoral students to complete tests based on the training materials developed by the EU-funded irecs project. While all learning modules and resources remain freely available via the ENERI Classroom, the eCampus platform provides a formal setting for doctoral students at the University of Bonn to complete four tests, each dedicated to one of the irecs focus technologies: AI in Health, Biobanking, Genome Editing, and Extended Reality.

After successfully passing one or more of the tests, participants receive a certificate, which can be submitted to the Bonn Graduate Center (BGZ) to obtain academic credit points within the Doctorate Plus program. This integration of the irecs training materials into the university’s formal qualification system demonstrates how research outcomes can be transformed into sustainable educational formats and hence make impact beyond the project’s lifetime.

The course combines the freely available irecs learning materials with a structured examination format. In doing so, it integrates ethical reflection into scientific qualification and strengthens the practical application of knowledge on research ethics and integrity. This interactive approach illustrates how EU-funded research can contribute to lasting change. By translating insights on the governance of research ethics into concrete learning experiences, it promotes integrity, responsibility, and reflective capacity among future generations of researchers.
